Hello Dear Friends,

You may be a little surprised when you say pickled onions :) Although it's called pickled onions, it's a kind of salad & appetizer served with marinade, just like pickled red cabbage. Salt, sugar and vinegar are used in its production, just like in pickles.

how to make pickled onions

You can add different flavors according to your taste. I preferred coriander seeds and black pepper, but you can try bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon sticks, rosemary or different fresh & dry spices that come to mind, according to your taste.

Also, if you use grape cider vinegar instead of apples, the taste will be a little sharper. Since it takes a very short time to mature, you can easily try it.

Ingredients for Pickled Onion Recipe

  • 2 medium red onion
  • 1 cup of apple or grape cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon of pickling salt
  • 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of coriander seeds
  • optional 1-2 slices of lemon
  • Sufficiently boiled and cooled water

How to Make Pickled Onion Recipe?

  1. Peel, wash and chop the onions.
  2. Press it into a 500 ml jar.
  3. Add black pepper, coriander seeds, salt, granulated sugar, slices of lemon and vinegar on top of the onions.
  4. Finally, add the water that you boiled and cooled to the rim of the jar and close the lid of the jar.
  5. Invert the jar 1-2 times and add some more water if necessary. (The water should come up to the rim of the jar)
  6. With the lid of the jar closed, wait for 1-2 days until it turns pickle color and serve.
  7. Do not forget to store it in the refrigerator.
