Plum compote always reminds me of my childhood years, I remember the way my aunts offered me ice-cold plum compote when we went to her house in Beylerbey during the holidays. So much so that whenever I take a sip of compote, I feel like I am in a garden full of mulberry trees, accompanied by the beautiful view of the Bosphorus bridge. My mother wasn't very involved in kitchen chores (although she still doesn't like it :) That's why when we went to the guest house, I stared in admiration when I saw the cakes and cookies made by others. I'll never forget, I'm 8 years old, when I went to my friend's birthday, I was very surprised to learn that his mother made the cake. If you ask how did you become curious about these things when your mother is like this, neither do I nor my mother. (Actually, my mom has a theory, she says they confused you with another baby at the hospital :)

The time I lived alone in college made me realize very well that cooking is essential to sustaining life. But it can't be said that I did something worthwhile after school, after returning home, starting my working life and until I got married (this period corresponds to my years of patso with pickles and half-bread meatballs for me). After I got married, I started to try everything I was curious about, both out of curiosity and because I could create the free space I was looking for (my wife's openness to new experiences, her inquisitive nature as much as I am, of course).

July is the period when fruits are the most abundant and cheapest. So if you're going to make jam or compote, it's the right time. As such, the bread machine has been a great convenience for me. By using it not only for bread making, but also for making jam, cake, and compote, I got rid of the preoccupying processes such as I'll go and have a look at the stove, mix it up, and cut the gold. I have a lot of experiments with the bread machine and I will share it with you very soon. I also give the classic recipe for those who do not have a bread machine. Let me now, as you know, today is Saturday...

I would appreciate it if you inform us that we should keep the sugar paste cakes or cookies at room temperature or in the refrigerator, should we cover them?
