Transition to Additional Food – 3-Day Rule
Transition to supplementary food The process brings with it emotions such as excitement, fear, happiness and curiosity.
While your baby's facial expression is enough to make you laugh when he tries new foods, the fear of whether he is hungry when he closes his mouth or whether my baby will be a child who does not eat is enough to surround you..
What is important in the transition to complementary foods is not the amount your baby eats at once, but how long the food variety is maintained. Especially in breastfed babies, the purpose of supplementary food is to introduce new foods to your baby's digestive system rather than to provide energy to the baby. That's why dear mothers, make sure that you breastfeed your baby enough, leaving aside the thoughts that my baby is not eating during these months, and that he ate less.
You will already have a chance to increase the amount as your baby's digestive system gets used to the new foods. In this process, give yourself and your baby a chance for 3 days.
Why 3 days?
3 days waiting rule; It is the best way to follow your baby's reactions and reactions to foods. Thanks to this rule, you can easily follow which symptoms are caused by which food and any allergic reactions that may occur.
What Should I Pay Attention to in the 3-Day Rule?
additional food Do not introduce your baby to a different food for 3 days while trying a food to your new baby.
I recommend starting with 1 teaspoon on the first day and finishing with half a teaspoon on the 3rd day, depending on your baby's tolerance.
Your baby may refuse the food you give, in such cases, I recommend that you try again after a few days without forcing.
Let's not forget that up to 12 months, breast milk is the most valuable food for your baby. The balance between supplementary food and breast milk is very important. At this stage, you can establish the balance so that your baby's main meal will be breast milk and supplementary food.
So which foods will we start with, which foods should we prioritize? in our next post.
